Welcome!

Eileen was born and raised in Beavertown , Ohio. Her parents, Charles and Margaret Beaver Berga, settled in Beavertown after their marriage in 1936. In 1955, she married Herman Thomas, a native of Newport, in Angola, IN. They lived there while Herman was attending Tri-State University. They later returned to Newport, and raised three children: Perry, Barbara and Penny.
She is an active member of the Newport Baptist Church, where she has served on the Christian Board. She has held offices in the Berean Class and The American Baptist Women Association. She was social chairman for many years, busy with the decorations and planning for the special seasons and occasions.
She was an active member of the Boy Scouts, Troop 224, since 1972, being a merit badge counselor for three badges. She is also a member of the Washington County Historical Society.
One of Eileen main interests was doing family research for members of this community and out-of-state families. She became interested in local history when her son, Perry, was working on an Eagle Scout merit badge. At that time, no local history resources were located in Newport. He went to St. Mary's and Marietta to find data. She began to collect information for the scout's research at this time.
