The writer and the contributor recognized a need to bring together in one volume the story of the Greene family and the settlement of Washington County, and, in particular, Newport, Ohio. Excitment grew with each new discovery. We are very proud to present SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER? and even more grateful for those who had the forethought to preserve the pioneer history. We have discontinued the print copy but are pleased to announce that our family history is available on Kindle through www.amazon.com .
We are grateful to Togin Cassell and LucyGrace Garceau who did their own research and offered a correction to the above family book. We sincerely regret the error. Susy Wetz rechecked her notes and confirmed the correction shown below.
Page 93 in the early print edition of the book and page 87 of the later edition, under the heading of "Chapter Four The Haskell Children." The statement is that "Maria died just shy of her 31st birthday." This correction has been made on the Kindle edition.
From Togin:
"I have visited Maria's gravestone, and the dates on the stone are definitely [that she was] born November 20, 1800 and died July 5, 1870. She is also listed with her husband on the 1850 and 1860 census records, so I know she was alive well past the age of 31. I may as well mention that her husband was Jesse Lawton, not Jess Lawton."
