The first recorded minutes of the Newport Baptist were on August 25, 1822. The first meetings were held in the homes of Jacob Churchill and Joseph Barker. A building committee was formed in 1840. The dedication of the present building was on January 1, 1842. The land was donated by Daniel Greene."-Eileen Thomas
