NEWPORT — John W. Cramer Sr., 76, of Maple Street died Thursday (Nov. 2, 1995) at Selby General Hospital in Marietta.
He was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Indiana, Pa., to John Franklin and Anna Mae Sowers Cramer. A veteran of the United States Army, he had served during World War II. He was retired from American Cyanamid. He was a member of Newport United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108 in Marietta.
Mr. Cramer is survived by four daughters, Brenda Sue Cramer of Newport, Tern J. Reed of Junction City, Kan., Donna Bennett of New Matamoras and Caroline Stewart of St. Marys, W.Va.; one son, John W. Cramer Jr. of Marietta: his companion, Pearl Hayth of Newport: three brothers, Joe Cramer of East Liver pool, Edward Cramer of Youngstown and Melvin Cramer of Livonia, Mich.; and two sisters, Agnes Brown and Pauline Borner, both of East Liver pool.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Reynolds Cramer, in 1976; his parents: four brothers, Harry, Allen, Floyd and Albert “Kay” Cramer; and two sisters, Margaret and Betty Cramer.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev, Gary Hicks officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery in Newport with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 64 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108, both of Marietta. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. James Crawford

Mrs. Ella Dearth Crawford, 86, widow of the late Rev. James Crawford, died at 5 p.m. Friday in Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Beverly.
She was born April 11, 1888 in Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Nathan and Ruth Osborne Matheny. She was married to Thomas Dearth. He died July 28, 1923. One son and four daughters survive this marriage, Arthur J. Dearth and Mrs. Dale (Genieve) Bogard, Marietta Rt. 1; Mrs. Clifford (Katherine) Carpenter, Mrs. Donald (Bernadine) McBride and Mrs. Edith Ritchie of Marietta.
She was later married to the Rev. James Crawford. He died in 1960. One daughter survives this marriage, Mrs. Freeman (Joan) Pritchett, St. Petersburg, Fla. One stepson and three step-daughters survive, Mrs. Esther Evans, Warner; Mrs. Lloyd (Lillian) Pitts, Marietta; Mrs. Virginia Lane and Jennings Crawford, Albuquerque, N. M. There are 12 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren and as well as step- grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren.
Four sisters survive, Mrs. Naomi Blouir, Mrs. Clara Hall, and Mrs. John (Lillie) Elliott, all of Marietta, and Mrs. Deborah Lynch, Williamstown. One sister, two brothers, and one step daughter preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She had spent most of her life in Marietta. Her husband had been the pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren churches on the River Local charge for many years.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Josephine ‘Jo’ P. Creighton
NEW MATAMORAS - Josephine “Jo” Mildred Creighton, 67, of 411 C St. died at 11:15 p.m. Friday (May 24, 1996) at Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Beverly.
He was born March 14, 1929 in Newport to Eugene and Marie Moody Harris. She had worked as a grocety clerk at Harris Supermarket in Newport and Knowlton’s Market in New Matamoras.
She is survived by her husband Donald Eugene Creighton; one son, Ricky Creighton of New Matamoras; two grandchildren; one brother, Kermit Harris of Newport and one sister, Gretchen Covay of Newport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Eugene Creighton who died Sept. 13, 1981; a one sister, Betty Davis,.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras with the Rev. James Schoonover officiating, Burial is in Matamoras Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Clara O. Cross

Mrs. Clara O. Cross, 87, former Williamstown resident, died 6:30 p.m. yesterday in a Marietta nursing home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1887, in Washington County, the daughter of James Rogers and Elizabeth Bowersock Rogers.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, James Howard Cross, who died in March, 1959, and George M. Moreland, who died the October, 1945, and sons Lawrence and Warren Moreland.
Edward Rogers, Newark; a brother, survives along with several nieces and nephews.
She held a degree of honor in Lodge Virginia No. 1 and was a member of Marietta Bible Center.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Had1ey Funeral Home. .Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery.
Mrs. Frank M. Creighton
Mrs. Ethel Mae Creighton, 74, Matamoras, died at 10:30 a.m. yesterday at her home.
Born Dec. 7, 1899, in Dart, she was a daughter of Norman and Fannie Lane Haught. She was a member of Matamoras Baptist Church.
She was married to Frank M. Creighton, who died June 28, 1952.
Three daughters and two sons survive, Mrs. Clemma Smith, Marietta, Mrs. Helen Henning, Mrs. Frances Cochran and Donald and William Creighton, all of Matamoras. There are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ren Binegar, Dart, and four brothers, Dale Haught, Matamoras, Ray, Marietta, and Forrest and Arthur, both of Dart.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Lee Hadley Funeral Home, Matamoras, with burial in Matamoras Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
Dandy F. Cronin
Dandy F. Cronin, 47, Newport Rt. I, died at 10:20 am, yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 4, 1926, Belmont, W. Va., a son of the late James I. Cronin and of Nancy Gay Smith Cronin.
On July 24, 1950, he married Peggy McGee, who survives with or son and two daughters, Timothy Allen td Brenda Sue Cronin of the home and Mrs. Jennie Lue Strickler, Newport. One step son. and one foster daughter survive, George Mclntire and Kay Mclntire of the home, and there is one granddaughter, Denise Stricker. One daughter, Carolyn Jo, died in infancy.
His mother lives at Belmont, W. Va., and there are two brothers and three sisters, Robert Cronin, Waverly. W.Va.. Howard Cronin and Mrs. Louelia Dornan, both of Williamstown, Mrs. Virginia Hendershot, Matamoras Rt. 3, kind Mrs. Pearl Winland, St. Marys, W. Va. One brother, James, and one sister, Rosa, preceded him in death.
He had been employed in maintenance department of American Cyanamid at Willow Island for 23 years, and had served two years in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Newport United Methodist Church and a teacher in the Sunday School.
Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Newport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark Hogue officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home until tomorrow noon when the body will be taken to the church. Dorothy Francis Cronin
WILLIAMSTOWN — Dorothy Francis Cronin, 75, of Williamstown Route 1 died Sunday (June 4, 1995) at the Parkview Healthcare Center in Parkersburg.
She was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Pleasants County, W.Va., to James Melvin and Lottie Huggins Francis. She was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ in St. Marys, W.Va., a member of the Amity Lodge 83 of the Rebekahs in St. Marys arid retired from the Bureau of Public Debt after 23 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Howard A. Cronin; one son, Sheldon Hays of Belmont, W.Va.; one daughter, Penny Hays Poling of Pickerington, one stepdaughter, Linda Rogers of Amherst, Va.; one stepson, David A. Cronin of Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, Bruce Francis of Bealsville and Jack Francis of Marietta; three sisters, Faynelle Rea of Belmont, W.Va., Ruth Pryor of Newport and Helen Pethtel of Marietta: 14 grandchildren; and 20 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sally Hendrickson and Frances Ann Hashman; her parents; one grandson, Larry Hashman; two brothers, Kenneth Francis and Jim Francis; and two sisters, Ruby Francis and Eloise Wilson.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial is in Willow Island Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. to night, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and up until time of services on Thursday.
Audra Cunion
ZANESVILLE – Audra Cunion, 71, of 642 Alfred St. died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at her home.
She was born June 18, 1919, at Lost Creek, W.Va., to Howard H. and Lucy Metz Koontz. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Charles Cunion, on Feb. 25, 1971.
She is survived by one son, Roger of Marietta; five sisters, Mrs. Howard (Ada) Lewis and Mrs. James (Virginia) Fritz, both of Zanesville, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Maxwell of Port charlotte, Fla., Mrs. Macle Pyles of Columbus, and Mrs. John (Eva) Dillmore of Cambridge; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Bolin Funeral Home at Zanesville with Father Richard Metzget officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery at Zanesville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
