Amos Adkins TombstoneMary Adkins

Inscription on tombstone of Amos Adkins, 1780-1851.  Newport Cemetery.

With honest purpose, heart sincere,
The weary path of life he trod;
"'Tis right," he said when death was near;
And found supporting hope in God.
Death's gloomy veil he calm surveyed.
Nor feared to travel the dismal shade.

Inscription on tombsone of Mary Adkins, 1783-1847.
Newport Cemetery.

Her last words were, "I'm going to Jesus."
Triumphing in faith, she yielded her breath.
"I'm going to Jesus," she whispered in death.
