Caleb Robert Elder

ST. MARYS, W.Va. - Caleb Robert Elder, infant son of Rob and Sheri Elder of St. Marys, died Tuesday (March 26, 2002) at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta,

      In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Delbert and Kathy Elder of St. Marys; maternal grandparents, David and Kathy Binegar of Newport; and two uncles, John Elder and his wife, Kendra, of College Station, Texas, and Bryon Binegar of Newport.

      Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys is in charge of arrangements. 

Donald Lester Emerick

      Donald Lester Emerick, 45, of Marietta Route 6 died at 10:14 p.m. Wednesday (July 28, 1999) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

      He was born April 17, 1954, in Marietta to Clarence William "Bill" and Lillian Root Emerick. He had attended Marietta High School and was owner of Emerick's Carpets until his retirement because of ill health. He enjoyed the out of doors and all sports, but especially football.

      He is survived by his wife, the former Victoria Masters, whom he married Sept. 24, 1971; two sons, Donald W. Emerick and Christopher E. Emerick and his wife, Tisha, both of Marietta; three grandchildren, Carissa Dawn Emerick, Brieanna Fought and Kayla Fought, all of Marietta; his parents of Marietta; two brothers, William Emerick of Columbus and Andrew Emerick of Marietta; two sisters, Lynn Fulton and Barbara Richards, both of Marietta; and several nephews and nieces.

      He was preceded in death by one brother.

      Memorial services are at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Second Congregational Church on Ohio 26, Marietta, with the Rev. Richard Saltzwedel officiating. There will be no visitation. McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta is in charge of arrangements.

      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Ohio Affiliate, 937 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio 43086. 

Opal Irene Ennis - Marietta Times

TISHOMINGO, Miss. -- Opal Irene Ennis, 71, a former resident of Newport, died Thursday evening (Sept. 28, 1995) at her home in Tishomingo. She has lived in Mississippi for the past three years.

      She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Newport to the late James and Myrtle Hearn Leister. She and her family had lived in Chicago for a number of years. She retired after 20 years as a cook at the Marquee Restaurant in Chicago. She was a member of the Marietta Church of God, and had lived in Newport and Bear Run.

      She is survived by five daughters, Geneva  Irwin  and   her  husband, Douglas, of Chicago, Joanna Lowery and her husband, Clarence, Barbara Ann Haught and Emma Flynn and her husband, Ray, all of Tishomingo, and Linda Credille and her husband, Jerry, of Belmont, Miss.; eight grandsons; six granddaughters; 10 greatgrandchildren;   two   sisters,   Betty Thomas of Newport and Ruth Ann Eddy of Dart;  and three brothers, Dale Leister, James Leister and Bernard Leister, all of Marietta.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ennis; three sons, Bobby Ennis, Denver Ennis and Jackie Ennis; and one grandson.

      Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home. Burial is in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon on Sunday until the hour of the services.


 
David Enochs

      David Enochs, 85, County House Lane, Rt. 6, died at 7:52 p.m. Monday in Selby General Hospital.

      He was born Nov. 24, 1888, in Washington County, a son of the late Jackson and Mahala Hood Enochs.

:0n Aug. 4, 1912, he married Blanche Tice, who survives with two sons and four daughters: Donald Enochs, Eddys Ridge; Harry Enochs, Mrs. Forest (Dorothy) Channel, Mrs. Herman (Helen) RoUison and Mrs. Leonard (Opal) Poulton, all of Marietta, and Mrs. Delbert (Alverna) Davis, Dart. There are 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, William Enochs, Marietta Rt. 5 and Mrs. Mary McKee, Texas. Two sons, Russell and Chester preceded him in death.

      Mr. Enochs had spent his life in Washington County, having lived on Shay Ridge for a number of years. He had been employed at the Ludlow plant of Hope Natural Gas Co. and was a member of Point Pleasant Christian Union Church.

      Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Donald Merle Enochs

Donald Merle Enochs, 67, of Eddy's Ridge, New Matamoras Rt. 3, died Feb. 22, 1991, at his residence.

      He was born at Shay Ridge, a son of the late David and Blanche Tice Enochs. He spent most of his life in Eddy's Ridge Community except for nine years when the family lived in Canton. He had been foreman at the Buxbom Rubber Co., Canton. He returned to Washington County, in 1960 and had been a welder and fabricator at the Armstrong Tanks Co. in Williamstown until his retirement due to ill health in 1964. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theatre including the Battle of Bulge. He attended Pt. Pleasant Christian Union Church and was a member of the Washington County Post No. 5108 VFW and American Legion Post No 64 and Parkersburg Chapter DAY.

      He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Lou Morgan Enochs; one son, Donald Enochs Jr. of Archers Fork, two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Judy) Eddy and Teresa Thompson, both of Eddy's Ridge; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alverna Davis of Dart and Helen Rollison and Opal Poulton, both of Marietta.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Enochs, Chester Enochs and Russell "Bud" Enochs; and one sister, Dorothy Channel.

      Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Pt. Pleasant Christian Union Church. Burial will be at Eddy's Ridge Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home. 

Gary Stuart Erb - 1990

Gary Stuart Erb, 37, of 111 West Montgomery St., died at 12:30,a.m., today, Feb. 16, in his home.

      He was born Jan. 28, 1953, in Marietta to David 0. and Ina R. Weinstock Erb. He was a laborer. He was a 1971 graduate of Marietta High School.

      He is survived by four children from a previous   marriage; five brothers, David L. of Lowell, John W. of Warner, Ronald L. of Marietta, Dale E. of Vincent Rt. 1, and James R of Fleming; four sisters, Mary Lou Weinstock Erb of Whipple, Mrs. Earl (Imogene) Tidd  of Newport,   Mrs. Bradley (Ruth) Morris of Marietta and Bonnie Williams of Columbus; two half brothers, William and Pearl Erb; and three half sisters, Carrie Hallet, Jeannette Neville and Hester McCain. He was preceded in death his parents and two half brothers, Virgil and Herbert Erb.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hadley Funeral Home at Marietta. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 

William W. Erb Sr.

ALLIANCE - William W. Erb Sr. 75, of Madison Street died on arrival at Alliance Community Hospital at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 16, 1996).

      He was born Sept. 1. 1921. in Marietta to David Otto and Rebecca J. Holiday Erb. His home had been on Pleasant Ridge before moving to Alliance in 1964. He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater in the Anti-Aircraft Division during World War II and was awarded two bronze stars. He had been a building contractor in Marietta and in Alliance and was a member of the Church of God in Alliance.

      He married Betty M. Denton, who survives. Five sons and four daughters survive this marriage: James Denton and his wife, Mary, of Tunnel, William Erb Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Whipple, Mark Erb, Allen Erb and Jason Erb. all of Marietta, Sharon Hurst and her husband, Larry and Joy Ann Huck and her husband, Jeff, both of Reno, Donna Wilson and her husband, Dave, of Marietta and Susan Thomas and her husband, Howard, of Whipple.

      On Sept. 20, 1974, he married Betty Mae Walkey Coffelt who survives with one stepson, William C. Disman of Canton; and one stepdaughter, Anne Watson of Las Vegas, Nev.

      He is also survived by six brothers: Pearl Erb of Reading, Pa., John Erb of Warner, David Erb of Whipple, Ronald Erb of Devola and James Erb and Dale Erb, both of Marietta: seven sisters, Jeannette Neville, Hester McCain and Ruth Morris, all of Marietta, Carrie Hallett of Alliance, Imogene Erb Tidd of Reno, Bonnie Erb of Columbus and Mary Lou Erb of Stanleyville: 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren: and a number of nephews and nieces.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother. Gary Erb.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial is in East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of the services. 

Howard R. Ewing - Marietta Times

MARIETTA -- Howard R. Ewing, 54, of Marietta Route 8 (Sand Hill), Yankeeburg Road, died at 3 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 22, 1995) at his home after a lengthy illness.

      He was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Marietta to Clarence R. and Sadie Elizabeth Giffen Ewing. He was a 1958 graduate of Marietta High School and had been a welder and construction worker. He had formerly been employed by Lane's Welders and Miller Welding  Co. and  had  worked  at Moore's hardware store. He was a welding instructor for one year at Washington   County Vocational School and had taught welding at the   Pleasant,   Ritchie   and   Tyler Counties Vocational Center for  10 years until his retirement in 1981 because of ill health. He had also made hunting knives, which were exhibited at many craft shows and flea markets. He and his wife were members of Pioneer Squares Dance Club for  12 years and he was a member of the American Welding Society.   He   attended   Sand   Hill United Methodist Church.

      On Oct. 1, 1961, he married Aunekia Jean Bogard, who survives with one daughter, Natalie Jean Ewing at home; three sons, Loren Ewing and his wife, Beverly, of Marietta Route 8 and Russell and Merle Ewing, both at home; three grandchildren, Alisha Rose Ewing, Kayla Marie Ewing and Marissa Jean Ewing; one sister, Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Schultheis of Reno Star Route; one brother, Michael Ewing and his wife, Claudia, of Lawton, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents.

      Services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta with Donald Seevers officiating. Burial is in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 tonight until time for the services on Wednesday. 

SARAH HELEN EWING - 1992

Sarah Helen Ewing, 83, Route" 3, Matamoras, died Sept. 13 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta.

      She was born in Wade, a daughter of the late G. Howard and Grace Ann Chandler Beaver. She had spent her childhood in Newport and after her marriage, lived in Cornerville and Palmer Township. She had made her home with her daughter, Marilyn Perrine for the past four years. She and her husband served as matron and superintendent of the Washington County Home from 1945-50.

      Surviving are one son, Norman L. Ewing of Beverly; two daughter, Marilyn Perrrine of Matamoras and Sandra Wagner of Vincent; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert C. Ewing; three sisters; three brothers, and a great-great-grandson.

      Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park, Marietta.
