LEGACY OF LOVE

On July 10, 1892, a daughter was born to William Thomas and Elizabeth Handlon Pitchard, to which they gave the name of Eunice.

From her birth in Ludlow Township; to her teenage years in East Liverpool; to married life in Beavertown, her love has been shared. First with her parents and fourteen brothers and sisters, then as her own nest grew with five children, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and Twelve great-great grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren.

Her well of love never ran dry. She loved each of us as much as any of us. In her, love showed as she shared in training each of us in her crafts and her beliefs. She watched us as we grew, as we went into the world to reach for our own goals.

As the oldest grandchild, I am privileged and honored to have the memories of her life and the legacy of love she has left each of us. I remember times in my childhood, times at Grandma's home, a door that was always open - a place to call “up home.”

In each of our hearts there is a special spot for a "Ma" like her. Her motto of life is indeed imbedded in each of us.

Let us never forget the legacy of her love. Let us practice it and live it and make it grow. She lived it; she gave it to us. Now the legacy is ours. What better gift can one give?

Now, she has been called home, to suffer no more. Her work has been completed on earth. Now, she has passed through the gates of Heaven to be with our loved ones. I know that she will meet us at Heavens Gate and tell us-"The door is open, come on in!"

As we tell "Ma" goodbye, join me in the promise of her legacy of love, that it will never die in our hearts.

“Ma, till we meet again on those beautiful shores-we love you."

-Eileen
