Patrick Hanlon Marker St Marys Oracle – July 25, 1990 NSAR honors Soldier  A group of descendants and interested persons gathered at Tice Cemetery, Ludlow Township, Washington County, O., June 30. The occasion was the marking of the grave of Patrick Hanlon, Revolutionary soldier, by the Ewings Chapter , National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, from Pomeroy, O. President Keith Ashley of Ewings Chapter resided at the ceremony.       A new government marker had been set earlier at the gravesite by Paul and Eleanor Martin, Bartlett, O. Paul is an SAR member and historian of the Ewings Chapter; Mrs. Martin is a member and former regent of Marietta Chapter, NSDAR. Township trustees had recently mowed and trimmed the fence line of the Tice Cemetery, the oldest Cemetery in Ludlow Township,. In the dedication, Ashley mentioned the sacrifices made by ancestors in order to serve their country; many later come into the Northwest Territory to claim government lands for their services.        Patrick Hanlon was born in Ireland circa 1737. he came to America with his brother James and settled in Virginia. He volunteered as a private in the Pennsylvania Continental Line, commanded by Co. Butler. He was placed on pension rolls March 5, 1819, with compensation commencing Aug. 12, 1819. He was married in Pennsylvania to Margaret, (1757-1842) last name unknown. She was from Harrison County, VA.       The Hanlon’s settled in Tyler County, W. VA. In 1808, and in 1823 moved to Ohio to the Ludlow Township area. They were the parents of eight Children. Twelve Descendants attending the grave marking were: William E.
