OXFORD, Miss. — Ruth Hale Cady, 86, of Golden Years Retirement Home at Oxford, formerly of 606 Vanbergen Ave., died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11. /
She was born Aug. 23, 1902, in Washington County to Charles Edward and Lidia Waller Hale. She was a member of Newport United Methodist Church and had retired as a teacher at Newport Elementary School.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Huston of Moorpark, Calif.; two sisters, Inez Happ of Oxford and Bernice Savasten of Youngstown; and two grandchildren.
Her husband, Floyd Cady, died in 1958.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hadley Funeral Home at Marietta, with the Rev. Kurt E. Landerholm officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery on Eddy’s Ridge. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
James G. Cain

War Veteran Dies, Aged 86
James G. Cain, 86, Civil War Veteran, died on Sunday at noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. T. McKibben, of Newport with whom he had been making his home since last January. Mr. Cain had been failing in health for several months.
Mr. Cain was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania on January 21, 1831. when six years old he came to this country with his parents and had lived here ever since with the exception of 15 years spent in Wood county W. Va. He was a nursery man and foe years had lived in the Sand Hill community, where he was well known. He was a 100 day man in the Civil War and served the duration of the Rebellion. He was a member of Buell Post G. A. R. On May 11, 1859 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ann Posey, who dies eleven years ago.
He is survived by the one daughter at whose home he died and five grandchildren. He was a member of the Sand Hill M. E. Church
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Sand Hill M. E. Church. Burial will be made in the Valley Cemetery.
Claire M. Harper Cameron

NEWPORT — Claire M. Harper Cameron, 83, of Newport, went to be with our Lord on Sunday (March 12, 2006).
She was a faithful member of Calvary Mission Church of Parkersburg and touched the lives of many and the hearts of all she knew. She was also an avid seamstress and an excellent cook.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Warren Cameron; her children, Jo Ann (Robert) Martin and Janice “Jane” (Blain) Mendenhall, all of Newport, William “Bill” (Johanna) Cameron of St. Paul, Mo., and Mary (Fred) Rose of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Brown of Parkersburg officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service at the funeral home. The family will be present to greet friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
George R. Cameron
LOWELL — George Russell Cameron, 91, Sixth Street, Lowell, died March 26, 1993 in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Southport, Maine, a son of the late George and Edith M. Snow Cameron. He had lived in Lowell for the past three years, moving here from Hallandale, Fla. He retired in 1964 as a mail sorter for the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1921 to 1925.
Surviving are twin brothers, Frank A. Cameron of Lowell and Walter I. Cameron of Pickens, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews from Lowell, Maine and Arizona.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Florence M. Van Horn; and two brothers, Lewis E. Cameron and William M. Brown.
The body was cremated.
Memorial services 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 1993, Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, Lowell, the Rev. Jack Neilson officiating. Burial, Bristol Mills Cemetery, Bristol, Maine.
Memorials preferred to the L.A. Fire and Rescue Squad.
Gertrude M. Cameron
NEWPORT — Gertrude M. Cameron, 69, of Newport Route 1 died at 8:45 am. Saturday (Feb. 24. 1996) at Lutheran Medical Center in Cleveland.
She was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Dart, Washington County, to Oscar and Sarah Skinner Thomas. She was a graduate of Newport High School and had operated Cameron’s Beauty Shop at Newell’s Run until her retirement in 1988. She attended Marietta Bible Center Church.
She is survived by one daughter. Karen Jean Carver and her husband, Freddie, of Newport Route 1; three grandchildren, Rick Barnes and Mindy Carver, both of Newport, and Stacey Barnes of Edgewater, Fla.; one brother, Herman Thomas and his wife, Eileen, of Newport: one sister, Ruth Bewley and her husband. Fred, of Sharon, Pa.: and a number of nieces and nephews.
On Sept. 30, 1944, she married James S. Cameron. He died June 4, 1994. Also preceding her in death are her parents: two brothers, Edward and Howard Thomas: and one sister, Edith Neeley.
Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Myron Guiler officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Glen William Cameron

NEWPORT — Glen William Cameron, 68, Route 1, Newell’s Run died at 6:30 a.m. today in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1910 in Marietta, a son of the late Samuel and Cora Williamson Cameron. He had lived in Pleasants County, W.Va., before coming to Newell’s Run in 1947. He had been a construction worker.
Surviving are three brothers and two sisters. Harry D., James S., and Mrs. Goldie Smith of Newport, Roy of Newton Falls, and Mrs. Elsie Taylor of St. Marys, W.Va.
A brother, Earl, and a sister, Mrs. Mamie Griffith, are deceased. A number of nieces and nephews survive.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Perry Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.
NEWPORT RECUE RUN
At 6 p.m. yesterday, the Newport emergency squad transported Glenn Cameron, 68, of Newport Rt. 1 to Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was complaining of lower back pain.
HOMER R. CAMERON
Homer R. Cameron died May 17 at St. John’s Medical Center. Steubenville, O.
He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Pleasants County, the son of the late George W. Cameron and Olive Wilson Cameron. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Wintersville, O.
He is survived by his wife, Shelda Hazley Cameron; one daughter, Sharon of Chicago, Ill.; two Sons Allen of Utah and Eric of Mingo Junction, O.; grandchildren; four sisters, Eftie Biggie, Hollandale, Fla., Opal White, Akron, O., Hazel Pugh, Lowell, O., Hestell Roby, St. Marys; one brother, Merel Cameron, Barberton, O..
In addition to his father and mother he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held May 19 at Wintersville, O. Interment was in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, O.
Harry Delbert ‘Deb’ Cameron

NEWPORT — Harry Delbert “Deb” Cameron, 83, of Newport died Sunday (March 31, 2002) at his home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Pleasants County, W.Va., to Samuel and Cora Williamson Cameron. He worked for Weirton Steel before going into the U.S. Army on Sept. 15, 1942. A veteran of World War II, he was discharged on Dec. 10, 1945. During his three years of service in the South Pacific he earned the America Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
After he came home he bought a house in the Newport area. He joined Carpenters Local Union 356 in Marietta, where he was a member for more than 50 years, and had worked on several jobs in the Marietta-Parkersburg area.
He is survived by one sister, Goldie Smith, 94 years old, of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Earl, Roy, Glen and James Cameron; and two sisters, Mamie Griffith and Elsie Taylor.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, W.Va., with the Rev. Perry Stewart officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery with military graveside rites to be con ducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1508 and American Legion Post 64 of Marietta. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

NEWPORT — James S. Cameron, 73, of Newport Route 1 died at 2 a.m. Saturday (June 4, 1994) at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born April 7, 1921, in St. Marys, W.Va., to Samuel and Cora Williamson Cameron. A construction worker, he had been seriously injured as a young man in a construction fall. He attended Marietta Bible Center Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Thomas Cameron, whom he married Sept. 30, 1944; one daughter, Mrs. Freddie (Karen) Carver of Newport route 1; three grandchildren, Stacey Barnes and Mindy Carver, both of Newport, and Rick Barnes of Marietta; one brother, Delbert Cameron of Newport; and one sister, Goldie Smith of Newport.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Roy and Glen Cameron; two sisters, Mamie Griffiths and Elsie Taylor; and his parents.
Services are 1 p.m. tomorrow at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta with the Re. Myron Guiler officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call until the time of the services tomorrow at the funeral home.
ROY M. CAMERON

Roy M. Cameron, 66, of 33 Orchard St. Newton Falls, O., died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Warren, O.
Born Oct. 31, 1914, in St. Marys, son of Samuel and Cora Cameron, he was a resident of Newton Falls for 50 years. He was a retired steel worker with the Thomas Steel Strip Co. in Warren and a member of the First Assembly of God of Warren.
Survivors include his wife, the former Irene Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Brady (Goldie) Smith of Newport and Mrs. Pete (Elsie) Taylor of St. Marys; two brothers, James and Delbert of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the James Funeral Home at Newton Falls, with burial in the Newton Falls I Cemetery. The Rev. Oliver B. Dalaba officiated.
Berneda M. Campbell

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Berneda Madeline Campbell, 45, died Sunday at her home.
She had been a resident of Newport Acres, Newport, until her mother’s death in 1980. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. A.C. (Phyllis) Whitley of Spotsylvania County, Va.; one step sister, Mrs. Jerald (Janet) Stiles of Lebanon, Ohio; and three nieces. She was a former employee of the C. & P. Telephone Co., of West Virginia.
Services will be at 10 am. Wednesday in Oak Grove Methodist Church, Ballengee, W.Va., with burial in Barger Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by The Ronald Meadows Funeral Home in Hinton, W.Va.
