Imogene Dobbs
NEWPORT — Imogene Dobbs 67 died Wednesday morning in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Cameron W.Va., to Thomas and Elizabeth Howard Buzzard. She was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Marys, W.Va. She is survived by her husband, Victor Dobbs; one daughter, Mrs. Vicki L. Hersh of Greensburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
MRS. GEORGE R. DODD
Mrs. Janie Edwards Dodd, 83, wife of George H. Dodd, of Sistersville, W. Va., died Saturday morning, December 22, 1962, at 4:30 o’clock, in Sistersville Hospital where she was admitted on Sunday, December 16th.
She was born in Washington County, Ohio, in January, 1880, a daughter of the late Martin and Maria Kinney Edwards.
She was married to George H. Dodd who survives with four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. H. A. Holland, of Chandlersville; Mrs. Roy Brisbin, of Pennsboro, W. Va.; Mrs. Sterling Evans, of Newark; Mrs. .Harry Mc Curdy, of Beverly; Harve Edwards and William Edwards, both of Washington County. One step-son, George R. Dodd, Jr., of Lost Hills, California, also survives.
A sister, Lucy Edwards, and a brother, Ross Edwards, are deceased.
Mrs. Dodd was a member of the Muskingum Valley Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at the Cooper Funeral Home, in Sistersville, W. Va., on Monday afternoon at one o’clock. Interment was in Valley Cemetery at Marietta.
Mrs. H. A. Douglas
Mrs. Louise Greene Douglas, 8? of Washington County Women’s Home, died Thursday at 1:12 p.m.
She was born at Newport April 23, 1873, a daughter of the late Charles and Temyrus Truesdale Greene. On Feb. 24, 1897, she was married to H. A. Douglas, who died in 1929. One son survives H. E. Douglas of Woodland Hills, Calif. One son, Charles, preceded her in death. She was the last surviving member of a family of 11 brothers and sisters. A number of nephews and nieces survive.
Mrs. Douglas was a graduate of the second class of Newport High School. Her family was on of the pioneer families that settled in Newport over 150 years ago. Her home had been in Parkersburg until 1849 when she came to Marietta.
She had been a member of the Newport Methodist Church until moving to Parkersburg when she becomes a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She had also been a member of the Order of Easter Star for a number of years.
Mary Elizabeth Douglas

NEWPORT — Mary Elizabeth Douglas. 73, of Newport died at 9:08 am. Friday (June 12. 1996) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Sistersville, W.Va. to Leo Andrew and Sina Belle Baker Bostaph. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1942. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Sardis. She was a housewife and home health caregiver for 15 years.
She is survived by six sons, Carl Douglas and his wife, Karen, of New Matamoras, Jim Douglas and his wife, Carolyn, of Dart, John Douglas and his wife, Susan, Gary Douglas and his wife, Kathy, and Raymond Douglas, all of Marietta, and Larry Douglas of Harrisville. W.Va.; five daughters, Joanne Farley and her husband, Loren, of Rinard Mills, Mary Antill and her husband, Richard, of Wingett Run, Peggy Adams and her husband, Bob, of Fleming, Dorothy Barth and her husband, Ted, of Marietta and Betty Rutherford and her husband, Sam, of Newport: 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles and Donald Bostaph and Tom Bostaph and his wife, Arlene, of Akron and William Bostaph of Wheeling; and two sisters, Eileen Robertson of Akron and Theresa Evans and her husband, George Elmer, of Wheeling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Douglas, who died March 18. 1962; one grandson, George Wade Murphy; one grand daughter, Theresa Joanne Farley Chambers; three brothers, Jim, Robert and Ray Bostaph; and two sisters, Caroline and Mary Alice Bostaph.
Ser are at 10 am. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marietta with Father James Dunfee officiating. Burial is in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in New Matamoras. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras. Vigil service is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Mae Gerhart Duer

WORTHINGTON —Dorothy Mae Gerhart Duer, 85, a former resident of Marietta, died at 8:08 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at Willowbrook Nursing Home in Worthington.
She was born April 9, 1917, in Marietta to Carl D. and Eliza Mendenhall Gerhart. She was a 1936 graduate of Marietta High School. After her education, she had been employed at Remington- Rand, the Smith Jewelry Store, Marietta College and was later an adult caregiver. She had also been head cook at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Duer were members of Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ; when the Harmar Hill Church of Christ was founded, they became members of that congregation. They had later lived in Monroe, Mich., New Lexington, Gahanna, Lakeland, Fla., and Pataskala, and were active in the churches in every city they resided in.
She is survived by one daughter Mary Elizabeth Bartmess and her husband, Walter, of Columbus; two grandchildren, Brent Alden Bartmess and Beth Alison Bartmess; two brothers-in-law, Bill Duer and his wife, Patricia, and Glen Duer and his wife, Ann; and one sister-in-law, Sara Jane Miller.
On June 22, 1935, she married Charles Delmer Duer. He died July 2, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in law, Mary Ellen Carlson; and two brothers, Harold Gerhart and Gale Gerhart.
Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. Thursday until the hour of the service at the funeral home. The family will be present to meet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mary Duffey
Mrs. Mary E. Duffey, 88, of 810 Wayne St., died Monday at 7:05 a.m. in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Duffey was born Aug. 23, 1866, in Newport Twp., a daughter of the late Uriah and Emaline Carpenter Seevers. Her husband, Charles J. Duffey, died June 28, 1947.
Surviving are three sons,George Duffey of Bellaire, Henry Duffey of 810 Wayne St., and Fred Duffey of Marietta Rt.2; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Standford, of Lancaster and Mrs. Mary Tidd of Newport Rt. 1; 45 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Seevers, of Newport Rt.1 and one sister, Mrs. Anna Pritchett, of Bellaire. Ten children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Duffey was a member of the Beech Grove Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Funeral services are incomplete. The body is at the Doudna & McClure funeral Home.
Iona Pearl Duffy
Iona Pearl Tyler Duffy, 52, a former resident of Newport, died in El Paso, Tex., yesterday morning.
She was born in Kentucky and reared in the home of an aunt, Mrs. Lillie Fidler, who resides in Cleveland. Mrs. Dully was a member of the Church of Christ.
In February 1942, she married Fred E. Duffy who survives with a son and a daughter, Fred E. II, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. J.B. (Judith) Doyle El Paso. There are two grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in El Paso Wednesday.
Clifford R. Duffy
MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Clifford R. Dully, 82, of Middletown, formerly of St. Marys, W.Va., died Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) at Northampton Manor Nursing Home in Frederick, Md.
He was born June 30, 1919, to Gilbert and Ida Farnsworth Dully. He was a retired police officer from Montgomery County Police in Maryland. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church at St. Marys and Pleasants County Historical Society, and was a charter member of New Matamoras Historical Society.
He is survived by one son, Michael Dully and his wife, Linda, of Middletown; three grandchildren, Timothy Dully and his wife, Pam, of Middletown, Christopher Duffy and his wife, Gayle, of Hagerstown, Md., and Mark Duffy and his wife, Kim, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two great- granddaughters, Cassandra Jolynn Dully of Martinsburg and Sarah Nicole Duffy of Hagerstown; one brother, Paul Duffy and his wife, Doris, of Marietta; three sisters, Patty Forshey and her husband, Bradley, of Marietta, Ina Feathers and her husband, Ed, of Auburn, Mich., and Connie Lively and her husband, Lewis, of New Martinsville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Bier Imaly, whom he married Aug. 24, 1939; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Services are at l1 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in St. Marys. Burial is in IOOF Cemetery in St. Marys. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Harry L. Duncan

Mrs. Helen L. Duncan, 73, Matamoras, died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday at her home.
She was born Aug. 2, 1903, in Marietta, a daughter of Fred W. and Ella Trotter Torner. Her father is deceased, and her mother resides in Marietta.
She was a graduate of Marietta College and had taught school prior to her marriage to Dr. Harry L. Duncan on Aug. 20, 1930. Mrs. Duncan was a member of Matamoras United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and served as church treasurer.
One daughter survives, Mrs. James R. Corbett, Matamoras, and her husband, Dr. Duncan, Matamoras. One sister preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Lee Hadley Funeral Home, Matamoras, with the Rev. Dean Walters officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Marietta. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Memorial donations may be made to Matamoras United Methodist Church or the local chapter of the American Heart Assn.
Erma Duvall
Erma Fern Duvall, 64, of 420 Central Ave. Williamstown, died at 1 p.m. Monday in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital at Parkersburg.
She was born Sept. 17, 1916, at Newport to Bernard and Sylvia Thomas Thompson. She was married to Vernon E. Duvall. He survives with one son, Neil Duvall of the home; one daughter, Ruth Knowlton of Williamstown; three brothers, Don Thompson of Marietta, Clayton of Newport, and Harley of Reno, Nev.; and two aunts.
She had lived in Williamstown since 1947 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Williamstown.

Mrs. John Duvall
Mrs. Mary E. Duvall, 77, of Matamoras Rt. 3, widow of John Senior Duvall, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 6, 1888, at Hill’s Post Office, a daughter of the late James and Alice Carver LeFever, and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Gold Star Mothers Club.
Mrs. Duvall was married to John Senior Duvall on Aug. 18, 1906. He died Jan. 6, 1954.
She is survived by four sons, Bertram D. Duvall and E. Glen Duvall, both of Marietta, S. Wiley, Duvall of Zanesville and Vernon E. Duvall of Williamstown; one daughter, Mrs. Grace Lane of Marietta Rt. 5; 12 grandchildren, and 16, great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Clyde Stanley Duvall, who was killed in action in World War II on Marsh 16, 1945; one granddaughter, Andrea Marlene Duvall; one sister, Mrs. Mamie DePuy; two brothers, Jimmie LeFever and Charles LeFever, and three half-brothers, Edward LeFever, Thomas LeFever and Lawrence Carver.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the family home, Dart, with burial in Decker Cemetery. Friends may call at the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home until Saturday morning when the body will be taken to the home where friend may call.
Senior Wiley Duvall

ZANESVILLE — Senior Wiley Duvall, 91, of Zanesville died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at his residence after a long illness.
He was born in 1911, to John Senior and Mary Elizabeth LeFever Duvall.
He was formerly employed as manager of A&P Tea Co., Broughton and Garvin Dairy Co. He worked during World War II as an electrical engineer for the Atomic Energy Commission (Manhattan Project) in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He retired as a 28-year veteran of Standard Oil Co. of Ohio (Sohio) in March 1973 as an industrial lubrication engineer and sales. He was also an owner and operator of Duvall Oil Co.
He was a member of First Christian Church at Zanesville, Masonic Lodge — Lafayette 79, Aladdin Temple at Columbus, Muskingum County Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, Zavi Shrine Club, and United Commercial Travelers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilda Lucille Lauer Duvall of Zanesville, formerly of Marietta; one son, Stanley Lee Duvall and his wife, Annabelle Ruth, of Nashport; five grandchildren, Yvonne (Mark) Golden of Zanesville, Celeste (Gary) Hawkins of Zanesville, Clyde W. Duvall of Etna, Jill (Mike) Parson of Louisville, Ky., and Joy Duvall of Nashport; six great-grandchildren, Craig and Andrea Hawkins, Dayle Wilson, Emily and Alex Duvall and Amanda Parson; and special friends, Max and Ruth Cooley of Shippensburg, Pa., Robert (Betty) Dingey of Georgia, William Harvey of Newark and Jane and Glenn Hammer of Granville.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Andrea Marlene Duvall; his parents; one sister, Grace Lane; four brothers, Bertrum, Glen and Vernon Duvall and Clyde Duvall, who was killed during World War II; and one granddaughter, Dayle Lucille Duvall.

NEWPORT — Bernard O. Dye, 77, of Newport died Wednesday (Jan. 22. 1997) at Harmar Place Rehabilitation and Extended Care in Marietta.
He was born Nov. 3. 1919, in Pleasants County, W.Va., to the late Leonard E. and Mary Yergin Dye. He was a member of Newport Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 75th Infantry during the battle of the Bulge. He was retired from American Cyanamid after 35 years and was a member of Matamoras Lodge 374 Free and Accepted Masons.
He is survived by his wi1 of 53 years. Hazel E. Poynter Dye; two sisters, Virginia Bills and Ruth Heilman, both of St. Marys, W.Va.; one brother, Harold Dye of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dallas, Robert and Richard Dye; and two sisters, Eloise and Violet Dye.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys with Pastor Joe Law officiating. Burial is in East Lawn Memorial Park in Reno. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Pauline Lisk Dye, 72, of 5055 Fairfield Drive died Sunday, Feb. 19, in Lee Memorial Hospital at Fort Myers.
She was born July 24, 1916, at Matamoras to Paul Dana and Mabel Marie Dickson Lisk. She was a graduate of Matamoras High School. She attended Nationwide Beauty School at Columbus and was a beautician at Fort Myers for 15 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Fort Myers.
She is survived by one brother, Robert R. Lisk of Fort Myers; one nephew; one grand-nephew; and one niece.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Harvey-Englehardt Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Russell Eugene “Gene” Dye

NEWPORT — Russell Eugene “Gene” Dye, 63, of Newport died at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1926, in Reedy, W.Va., to Russell “Ernie” and Ada Stahlman Dye. He was a veteran of World War II and had served on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill with the U.S. Navy. He had been employed by Newport and Frontier school systems and by Marietta School District until his retirement in 1977.
He and his father had owned and operated Ford Tractor Sales Co. at Newport. He was a member of the Ohio Public School Employees organization and had served as president. He was also a member of American Association of Retired Persons, School Retirement System and Marietta Senior Citizens.
On May 18, 1947, he married Mary L. Lauer, who survives with one son, Russell Eugene Jr. of Marietta; two daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Jean) Bosworth and Mrs. James (Loretta Sue) Kern, both of Marietta; five grandchildren; two brothers, Carl and George, both of Newport; three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Libby) Lauer of Newport, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Welch of Augusta, Ga., and Mrs. Stanley (Nancy) Michaelis of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Kurt Landerholm officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. today until the hour of the services.

She was born in Pleasants County, a daughter of the late Smith L. and Verna Shultz Poynter. She was a member of the Calcutta United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Harold L. Dye; two sons, Leon Dye of St. Marys and Paul Dye of East Liverpool, Ohio; four brothers, Lawrence and Rolla Poynter, both of St. Marys and Lyle and Dale Poynter, both of Newport; one sister, Hazel Dye of Newport and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one infant daughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home with the Rev. Amos McVey officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, St. Marys.
